April is a mom of 3 (all under 9), and the wife of a Chemist. She was born and raised in Orlando, FL, and graduated from the University of Central Florida. She and her family live in Raleigh, NC.
April Young Blackwell started her career in the financial services industry in 1999 after graduating from the University of South Carolina with her MBA. Her initial path in banking was through commercial banking. She was a management trainee, a financial analyst, and a business banker for a mid-sized Southeastern regional commercial bank. These early years in banking really shaped April's credit and analytical skills. This unique beginning makes April keenly effective when working with the self-employed borrower, as well as confident when working with any complex financial puzzles.
Like many in the mortgage industry, April sort of fell into originating home loans. But, after helping that first family purchase their first home in 2004, she got the bug and has been passionate about helping individuals and families build wealth and improve their lives through homeownership ever since.
She foresaw the end of risky lending practices, survived the housing crisis, and continued to help well over 1,000 clients with their home lending needs. Through her vast experience of helping everyone on the spectrum of life, from the single mom buying her first home, to investors, and CEOs buying luxury homes. She's seen many situations and has observed a clear need for education for all future and current homeowners to help them make better and more informed decisions about their home loan options.
This is the inspiration for The Mortgage Points. There is nothing for sale here. Just helpful useful points on a mortgage faq blog to help you make better decisions!
April is well connected to other lenders in her market and across the country. She stays on top of industry trends and product offerings through her membership in the Raleigh Mortgage Bankers Association. She seeks the best solutions for her clients. If she can't provide the solution but knows someone who can, she is generous in making connections that serve her clients and Realtors. In order to best serve her clients, she opened her own brokerage, Blackwell Mortgage of NC, LLC in February 2021.
